About Michelle
Michelle is known as an insightful and compassionate teacher who facilitates experiences for her students that allow them to move deeper into their own truths. She teaches to uplift and liberate the spirit, having helped many of her students turn their practice into a graceful 'meditation in action.'
Michelle is from Cape Town, South, Africa and New York City. Having an appreciation for diversity and culture from birth, Michelle is an avid traveler with a passion for living in and exploring the East. Michelle has taught in many cultures and settings; notably in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, India and Taiwan.
Michelle's primary yoga teachers are Cyndi Lee from OM Yoga (Vinyasa yoga), Sarah Powers (Yin yoga) and Yogacharya Venkatesha (Yoga Therapy). Her meditation practice draws from her ongoing studies with Zen and Vipassana teachers.
Michelle has studied the Way outlined by Krishnamacharya and Gautama the Buddha for over 700 hours with master teachers. She is blessed by OM Yoga to teach, is registered with the Yoga Alliance (RYT 200) and is a yoga therapist certified by the Atmavikasa Center for Yogic Sciences in Mysore, India.
Michelle is active in creating awareness and understanding of our diverse cultures and of the importance of environmental sustainability. Since 2000, she has been a board member of the James Bradley Peace Foundation, a foundation that fosters understanding between America and Asia by sending American students to Japan and China to study.
She is an avid student of the Yoga, Buddhist and Taoist philosophies and finds inspiration in nature, literature and her ever-changing environment.
